Book Review: The Lion's Deceit

My review this week is for the book The Lion's Deceit by Mpho Otukile.

My first thought when I opened up that yellow package was what a beautiful cover! The book is very colorful and delightful to look at. The illustrations are wonderful and my son absolutely loved them. They are a great way to help tell this story to your child. As soon as we got the book in Boo Bear wanted me to read it. We ended up reading the book twice before he was done. He really enjoyed the story and the pictures. I too enjoyed the book. You meet the Lion, the King of the Jungle, who doesn't like to run! He creates a plan with his friend the Fox and together they try to cheat in getting food. The Lion is found out and quickly realizes that he was made to run and being lazy gets you nowhere. This is a great read for younger children and a big helper for Mom to help teach why being lazy is not all it is cracked up to be. I asked my son what he liked about the book or what he remembered and he said I remember the lion lied and we are not supposed to lie. This picture book seems to have taught him more than I thought.I personally love reading books like African children's books because they allow us to take a wonderful journey to another part of the world without leaving our home.
