Back to Normal...

In our life this week... After New Year's it was a try at getting back to our normal everyday routines. Daddy back to work, us back to school and work. I have been looking into adding a few new things for our school work and some fun things too. We have had a pretty great week so far.

In our homeschool this week...  We got back to work on Wednesday. We have had a fabulous couple of days so far. Boo Bear is doing wonderful in his reading, his writing and his math. We have an issue though. It seems when he reads for just me he does wonderful. He reads for daddy and he acts like he doesn't know how... hmm... He has turned very shy when it comes to some things.

We are adding in Poppers Penguins unit study that I grabbed over at Confessions of a Homeschooler. Boo Bear loves this movie and I thought what a great way to study it :) And add some fun to our new school year. So we will be starting that on Monday. We are in a time of review in our math this week as well before moving on. I learned that we will be getting the chance to review some great curriculum's in the next few weeks too, so be sure to watch out for those coming your way!

Questions/thoughts I have... How can I help him have more confidence when reading in front of other people? He does really well with me but get him to read to dad and it's a different story. Any suggestions?

Places we're going and people we're seeing... With my work I am coming into contact with a lot of homeschool families or those who want to be one. Today we will be meeting at a local park so that they can all get together and also those interested can ask questions. One family in particular is on my heart because she told me her daughter came home in tears from school yesterday after they announced they will be locking all the classroom doors from now on. It's just very sad... So I am excited about meeting other families today that are on the same journey !

I'm cooking...My diet coke chicken recipe with a little twist. ;) I didn't have diet coke so we used root beer instead and it turned out just as yummy! I also cooked some homemade hamburger helper type dinner the other night which was also good :) .

I'm reading... I'm planning on reading through the entire bible. I have tried to do the 90 Day plan and although I got through part of it I never could do all that in one day. So I am shooting for doing it in the year. I'm super excited! We will also be reading Popper's Penguins this coming week.

Things I'm working on... Finding apps on my new Kindle Fire (eeeee!!) for Boo Bear to work on during school. We do book work but having the option of doing apps is a great help. I am looking for any kind of thing that can help him in reading, writing etc. Do you have any suggestions?

Photo of the week... This was last weekend while visiting Grandpa. It was a blast but got very cold for some reason. Crazy weather we have here... One day it's flip flops and shorts the next day it's boots and jeans :)

Don't forget to check out other homeschool Mama's :)

  2. I did the Bible in 90 days and it was awesome. I'm planning to do it again, probably over the summer. It is a commitment but well worth it.

  3. What about reading to pets or stuffed animals to practice BEFORE reading to Dad? Or read to Dad facing backwards so he can't see him? I know - different! LOL

We love Mr. Popper's Penguins! Such a cute story! I think homeschoolshare.com has a lapbook too if you're need more elements.

  4. We did Mr.Popper's Penguins in November and loved it. I added some elements from the Homeschool Share unit to the Confessions of a Homeschooler one, mostly so I could use the math and English elements from the Homeschool share unit. Hope you guys have a great time with it!

  5. Stopping by from Schoolhouse Reviews. You had a nice week. I wish I had suggestions for you on the apps and the reading. We don't have a device yet. Reading in front of people Peanut sometimes is a little shy. It really depends on the situation. Maybe if you all take turns. We did that at first with the Bible and she warmed up to reading in front of us (to the point that we now have to ask her to take a break).

Thanks so much for stopping by. I like your blog design.
