Learning a second language, I believe, is so very important for our children. It's important for us too but I realize now more than ever how important it is to give my son that good strong base. Being bilingual can help him get a good job in his future, help him communicate more thoroughly with others and help him broaden his horizons. So when we had the opportunity to review the Classical Academic Press Song School Spanish we were thrilled!!!
Classical Academic Press offers a variety of homeschool curriculum for families. We received the Song School Spanish curriculum for this review. This curriculum is great for students in grades K-3.
In our package we received the students book that contains a CD. This is everything your student needs to get started on their song school journey. The CD has 42 songs that go along with each lesson and progress on the terms your student is learning. This book and CD set is priced at $24.95.
We also received the Teachers edition for me.This is full of ideas and activities to help your student learn the language. It helps you to plan each day with 30 lessons set out for you. It goes over what songs are in each chapter, what words you are working on and gives you ideas on how to teach the concepts. This was a great help for me because I will be honest... I am a planner but when it comes to homeschool, I find it easier to have it laid out for me ;-)The teachers addition is also listed at $24.95.
What we thought: Well I am a singer. I love to sing and my son has seemed to picked that up from me too. I mean who doesn't love jamming out to a good song and singing at the top of your lungs? Maybe not everyone but we sure do. When we put the CD in we were immediately hooked. I found myself singing the songs around the house and I would hear my little guy doing it as well. He loves the music and songs. I love that he is learning while he doesn't realize it. ;-) We thoroughly enjoyed working on the CD. We listened to it in the car and at home. This helped us as we were out and about to reiterate what we were learning.
The lessons are easily laid out and planned for you. I love that part! We would work on this about 10-15 minutes a day. We worked on the various workbook pages and pronouncing our words. We would listen to the songs sometimes multiple times. It all depends on what Boo Bear was in the mood for. We would do this everyday and for shorter or longer periods of time. I basically went with how much he was wanting to do.
For us it is a big hit and I look forward to finishing this and progressing with him. It is helping me refresh my Spanish as well. I took two years in high school and this is helping bring all that back to me. He really enjoys his buddies in the book, Tortuga and Conejo. They help make the learning exciting!
If you have a chance to grab this up and your children love to sing, I would highly recommend this to you. It is a great way to have some fun while learning a new language.
