The Homeschool Mother's Journal - Entry #2

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

Linking up with other Homeschool Momma's to share our week. You can find other journal posts over with Sue at The Homeschool Chick. We are officially homeschooling now and this week has been wonderful. I think God has allowed this to be an easy week to kind of flow so that I can see in my mind that this can be done. ;o)

In My Life this Week... We started homeschooling officially this week. Boo bear is out of official school and I was going to let him have a break to deprogram from the public school life. He didn't want to. ;) We have done light schooling every day this week except for yesterday and he is loving it. I have to say I am too. I am starting to see how he does with learning and what seems to work best for him. This has been a great week of working together and spending lots of time together too.

In Our Homeschool This Week... We have been working on our first Unit of You Can Read. I love Carisa's program and Boo Bear is picking it up so quickly. We will start on Unit 2 today or Monday. We have also been playing lots of Superhero Go Fish and other summer activities.

Places we 're going and people we're seeing... We had a blast getting together with old friends this week. We went to a friends house on Thursday (two friends houses actually) and we got to hang out with some friends that have moved away yesterday while they were in town. I think I am getting an iPhone today too so I am super excited. I have heard there are many educational apps on the phone too so that is also getting me pumped up. ;o)

What's working and what's not working for us... We are still in the trial phases right now. So far the activities are working for us. He will do some of the items for writing and actual WORK but is not enjoying them much. I know this is just the beginning and we are both learning. So we will have to see what happens in the weeks to come.

Questions/ Thoughts I have... I myself am still in the learning phases. I am seeing things that are working for us like me reading while he is playing with play doh. I am also seeing areas that he is not fond of like doing actual writing and worksheets. He loves to play games and be read to and we are just going with that right now.

Things I'm working on...I am doing the Good Morning Girls Book club and added the Warrior Prayers 21 day challenge this week. I was thinking I was overwhelming myself but getting in the Word and praying for my son are things I NEED to do to make sure I am in the right mind for him.

I'm reading... I am reading a couple of things right now. I am reading a book about the unschooling approach to homeschooling, a book by Nora Roberts( the last in the series of hers I have) and I am also doing the bible studies I mentioned. whew!!

A video, photo, link or quote to share...
Here are a few shots of Boo Bear working on his play doh words out of our Unit 1.
