Weekly Review : Valentines Day and Lots of Fun!

Happy Valentines Day! This week has been a wild one already! I'm glad that the excitement is back and that we are moving right along in our homeschooling. Yes, I know that this is just the second week back but, you can tell when things click and when they don't.

We have had a lot of running around to do to get things back into our routine we like. I had to shuffle some of the things I do at the church so that I can keep our schedule going. Thankfully I work with an awesome group of ladies.

We have had a lot of fun and today is sure to be filled with fun as well. :-) Our homeschool Valentines Park day is today and we can't wait. Our first big homeschool event since we got back to it. So here's a look back at our week...

Curriculum
So we are trucking right along with our English, Word Building and Literature PACES from ACE. I have ordered the rest for 2nd grade so they should be here today or this weekend. He really does well with that Grammar program so we are doing that for now. When it comes time to reevaluate before the 3rd grade, we shall see. Otherwise this program is working for us right now.

Math Mammoth is awesome! He was doing all PACE's when he was at school and I just didn't like the frustration I was seeing with his math. I decided to use the Math Mammoth curriculum we had from a review last year and it is awesome! He started in chapter 4 with this book and he's showing me those shining math skills again. I'm really enjoying the progress we are seeing and how well he is doing.

Our Science arrived!!!! Yes!!! We are super excited. I don't know who's more excited about it. Him or me! ;-) I absolutely LOVE Apologia! Have I said that before? ;-) If not I am now! We are doing the Elementary Astronomy Science and can't wait to get started! Here it is!!

Since our Valentines party is today we have been hard at work on Valentines. We exchange them with our friends and have a great time. This year Boo Bear decided he wanted to make them. While this was quite a feat as we have close to 30 kids attending, he did awesome! I printed off a few of these sheets because I thought they were so cute. He loved coloring them and we have them all ready to go.

Places We Visited...
We had a co-op meeting on Monday to discuss a few options about starting one. Does anyone else around here have co-op advice or tips to share? We are wanting to get together and share non-core subjects together as a group. There seems to be a need and we have had a great response to the notion. Hopefully it takes off soon.

We had our second robotics class yesterday. It was a blast and I'm loving that we can sit and chat with new homeschool mom's. It is such a blessing to share with new homeschool mom's things we have found along the way. I see the same panic in their eyes that I had when I first started out. It still pops up in mine sometimes but I am so thankful that seasoned mom's are all around me. :)

We also had a great trip to the library and to the books tore.

My favorite things this week...
My sweet boy got up yesterday and wanted to fix me breakfast. He did it all by himself and I am so very thankful for his kind heart.

And this is what he will wake up to this morning ;)

No, he won't eat them all today ;)

So what did you guys do this week? I hope you had a great week and check out the other weeks linked up below.

  3. Yay for second weeks and for things clicking. We love Exploring Creation for science. Believe it or not, you will need to check out the liability laws and legal coverage for wherever you plan to hold the coop meetings. Our church in MD passed on hosting a homeschool coop due to the legal issues of liability. Maybe consider if there will be a statement of faith necessary for applicants or teachers to sign. Also, what will it look like? Just some of those planning nuts and bolts. I wish you great luck with it!! We love them, it's just a challenge to get one kicked off ;-)

  4. We LOVED Apologia Astronomy. If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby, they sell "space food" - so when we got towards the end and learned about what Astronauts do in space, we ate some space food. My son thought it was very cool! Have fun!!

  5. Sounds like an awesome week! We loved the Astronomy and all of Apologia's books, for that matter. Have a great rest of your weekend! :-)

  6. So glad it's going well!! Math Mammoth is great, I agree!! If the church or building you meet at approves it, they will be responsible for insurance issues, so just see who is willing. Other recommendation is to start small. Have fun, though!!
