Getting Back in the Swing Of Things...

Boy, does anyone else have hard times getting back into the swing of school after a break? While we thrive on our routine, it's been difficult getting back into the groove this time. This was our first real break during the school year.

We are trying something new for our 3rd grade year. We have always just taken breaks whenever he or I needed them. We would take time off around holidays, birthdays, spring break etc but never a set schedule. This year I took a different approach.

We are working on a six week on, one week off session schedule. It is working pretty well for us because by that week break, we are ready. I haven't ever scheduled breaks in like this so this is a first for us.

While we are slowly getting back into it, it has been more difficult than I thought it would be. Do you guys have problems with that?

So here's what we are doing to get back motivated.

1. Taking it slow - Each day we are adding more and more work to make sure we get back to our full load. Last week was our first week "back " but we only did a few things to finish up lingering chapters before this week.

2. Enjoying the slowness - All too quickly we will be back to multiple field trips, park days and etc. so we are enjoying our slower schedule right now.

3. Reading a lot - I'm so glad he has started wanting to read. He doesn't fight me near as bad as before and he actually chooses to read several books at a time. So we are cuddling on the couch and he's reading to me.

4. Learning new things in a different way - This is Boo Bear trying to learn and work on his multiplication tables.

This is another reason I LOVE homeschooling. There's no way he could walk around like that to learn them in a different school setting. I am so thankful that we can do this and that he's learning his way.

So what tips do you have for getting back from those glorious breaks? Does it take you a bit to restart?
