Week in Review - Hello Weekend!!

Hey everybody! Anybody else ready for the weekend to arrive? Me!!! Of course our weekend will be busy but at least it is the weekend.

On the school front....
We had a nice productive week this week. We spent time working on English, Spelling, Math and Science. We had a little bit of art thrown in using the Art for Kids website we have fallen in love with. My DS will sit there for long periods of time following these videos and doing quite well. He's having a blast and hopefully this weekend we will add an art wall to his room so he can display it. He's asked for this in his room so he can show it off.

One thing we have both enjoyed this week is our read aloud. I find as he does his written work, he works better if I'm reading something. So this week we tried a book we found at Barnes and Noble. It is a huge hit here. It's the first in a series and we are both loving it.

It is about a time traveling Golden Retriever who goes back to the Oregon Trail. Since this is his first time traveling experience we aren't sure yet how he gets back to his owner but we are anxious to find out. He loves this one and so does our Golden ;-).

We are almost finished with it but we have to wait till this summer for the next one to come out. It is geared towards 2nd-4th graders as a history series. I'll let you know more about it as we finish it up in the next week.

I'm not really sure what sparked it but one day this week Boo Bear just came out with school was really fun today. (me silently screeching eeeeee!! ) Not sure what was different except we got everything finished up and he just enjoyed it. ;) A homeschool win for sure!!

We also had an interesting side lesson this week. As we were doing school work on Tuesday, Molly started raising a ruckus at the front window. We ran over to see what was going on and this is what we found.

This and one other big tractor were working on getting the limbs cut down beside the power lines. This is our first year in this house so we had never seen them come by and do this before. We haven't had trees in our yard like we do here. So for a few minutes the three of us sat and watched this process.

I love that we can take these moments to sit and watch things going on before finishing up school. We are learning in everything we do. :)

On the homefront...
I'm working on implementing a better chore system around here. For myself included. I usually just try to have one day a week that is the major cleaning day. Instead, I'm going to try out a new schedule I saw this week where each day has it's own specific chores so you don't have to do everything all at once. I'm hoping this will work for us. DS has his own chores he has to do and I'm also considering upping those as well. What do you kiddos do around the house to help out?

In the kitchen...
This week we've had some pretty yummy dinners. Last night was a mixture of my own. Not sure what you'd call it but it was yummy. I didn't measure anything but put some fresh ginger, minced garlic and Tamari sauce on top of some beef strips with onions. It was pretty good and even the kiddo liked it. We are in the middle of making some changes to our eating and we are looking forward to sharing it with you.

So that's about it. We had a pretty normal relaxed week this week. Maybe today we can get in a field trip or something exciting. Not quite sure yet. What about you? What does your day/weekend look like?

I'm linking up with Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, Homegrown Learners and Our 4 Kiddos.

  3. We are also in need of a better chore system. My daughter (5) makes her bed and puts the clothes away, and helps to watch the baby while I prepare meals. My son (3) sweeps or uses the hand-vac on the kitchen floor and helps me load the washer and dryer. Like you, I'll be upping their chores soon.

  6. I can't wait to search down that book recommendation at the library - thanks!

We tried something new this week where I wrote morning jobs in slips of paper, put them in a hat and the kids had to pick out a job randomly. The kids were actually pretty excited to find out which job was theirs for the day!
