Week in Review - The One With Pirates

Happy Friday!! I'm glad to see the weekend on the horizon. I think this weekend will be full of at home projects but not entirely sure yet. We shall see.

This week has been a normal one. Sort of. We are having some changes going on around here with our scheduling so it's been an interesting one.

We have decided to drop Cub Scouts. I have honestly run myself ragged being Cub Master and Den Leader for two years straight. It's been a fun three year adventure but Boo Bear is also ready for different adventures. We also started the Royal Ranger program this week at our church. That is basically the same thing with Cub Scouts just at our church. Also it's three miles from our home instead of 20 so that makes a huge difference ;).

Before we left the Scouts we had our Pinewood Derby race. Boo Bear won 1st place over the den and the Pack. He was super excited!!

We went for lunch with Grandpa to celebrate afterwards. It was a fun Saturday and a great way to end our time with Scouting.

His first night at Royal Rangers was this past Wednesday and he had a blast. I think he and his dad will really enjoy it as it gets going. Praying they do!

On the school front... Things were pretty normal here. Keeping on keeping on with our same curriculum choices and adding in new review products. Be sure to check out my review today that is an awesome Easter idea. We also had some new curriculums arrive this week that we will share in a couple of months.

He's love his math online and the science as well. He's progressing really well with both. I asked him if he enjoyed the math better than when I teach it and I could tell he was apprehensive about answering. I told him he wouldn't hurt my feelings if he did and I got a resounding YES! ;-) So for now online programs work better for him.

I have considered and looked at the Minecraft homeschool options. Have you tried those out? He has been into his game a lot lately and I thought about adding those as fun courses to take. I'd have to get the computer program I believe but if he's having fun and learning, it's worth it to me. I'd love to hear your thoughts if you've used it before.

Science class was back! He loves these classes and I love what he learns out of them. Yesterday on the car ride home we discussed building pirate ships, pirate clothing and Archimedes principle. Whew! He came home talking up a storm.

On the home front... We are trying low carb options here to get healthier for all of us. So far so good on the recipes I've introduced. I've heard a lot of talk about how radishes can be cooked to take on the flavor of whatever they are cooked in. Kind of like little red potatoes but without all the stuff I don't want. This recipe was fixed this week and my son had two servings of it. He doesn't LIKE radishes and had two, yes TWO, helpings! I think that's definitely a win!!!

We also have been fixing these breakfast burritos this week. He has fallen in love with them and I'm super glad :).

His guitar lessons are going great as well. He's working on a song he loves from a popular band and he's super excited about that. I love hearing him play and practice and can't wait to hear him get involved in playing at church. It's kind of a dream of mine to play the piano with him :). That's a little down the road but can't wait.

So how are you guys? Did you have a great week and stay really warm? We went from the 20's-30;s to 70's -80's this week. Course we will cool down again today or tomorrow but I'm enjoying the sort of spring weather. We usually skip spring and go right to scorching summer here.

I'm linking up with Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers, Homegrown Learners and Our 4 Kiddos.

  1. Still chilly & wintry here but I'm hoping for warmer weather.

I remember Royal Rangers - my brothers were both a part of that instead of boy scouts when they were kids.

And I think my daughter would leap at the chance to do Minecraft for school - that sounds like it could be a fun way to break up the monotony of a normal school day.

  2. Sounds like you are finding some good choices for your son. I never heard of Royal Rangers. I will have to look into that.

  3. This looks like a good week- not too busy but fun stuff going on. My son did take some Minecraft Homeschool classes. He liked them. It's pretty easy, and the classes are educational and fun.
