Standard Deviants Accelerate :Homeschool Courses Review

It's always fun to shake things up a bit when you're homeschooling. We tend to fall into a rut with our studies so adding in a new product helps us jump right back out. That's what happened with our Standard Deviants Accelerate review of the Homeschool Courses they provide.  We received the annual access to their homeschool course selection. This online homeschool program provides you with a variety of middle and high school courses to choose from. While we're not quite middle school yet, we worked with a few of their courses. Boo Bear worked on the Earth Science for 6th grade and the Arithmetic which is slated for third grade and up.  There are a ton of other classes including:

• Nutrition
• U.S History
• AP Chemistry
• Chemistry
• Fundamental Math
• Biology
• Algebra

How it works:

As the teacher, you sign into your account and put your student in their classes. They will be able to sign in under their own account later on. You assign the subjects you want your student in for the time period. This is a work at your own pace course so it will take however long your child needs. That's one thing we like about this course. There's no time frame on when the subjects must be completed. 

Once you've gotten the classes scheduled, your student will sign in under their account. They will find the subjects listed and choose which class to work on. Under each class heading, they will find a list of videos to get started with. Your child will watch a particular video in each section, followed by a set of quiz questions. This helps to reiterate what your child just went over.

Boo Bear would sign in each day and work on one or two videos in each class. They are shorter videos on each topic that should be covered under your class selection. The video for math usually took about five minutes or so to go over the topic. He said he really enjoyed these lessons as it broke up our regular day of worksheets. There are quizzes, tests, areas to take notes while you watch videos, and so many more additions to this program.

He also worked with the Earth Science portion which is a little ahead of his age/grade range. I put him in this course because he is a science nut! He loved it! The videos are fun to watch and engaging so it's easy for your child to stay in tune.

These classes go anywhere you go and can be used on a variety of devices. For us, we used our laptop at home. The programs are really easy to get into, offer updated progress reports, areas to grade, and are fun for the kids. There's even assistance on that ever dreaded subject... ALGEBRA!!

These courses are perfect for a curriculum supplement or to use as your full curriculum. You can easily access the program anywhere you have Internet and your student can stay on task. It's very affordable as well and offers all types of classes from third grade to advanced high school courses.

We really enjoyed working with this site and plan on continuing it with our studies. This also helps you add in some extracurricular courses you might not get other places.
