Book Review: Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus

**I received the book Harriet Beamer takes the bus free to do a review. All opinions are mine**

I love reading. I love blogging and thankfully the two typically go hand in hand. I especially get excited when I get to read a book that is coming out and share my thoughts on it.

The book I got to read this time is called Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus by Joyce Magnin. It is published by Zondervan. Joyce has written five novels and this is my first of hers to read. I'm hooked ;)

The story line follows Harriet Beamer and her family. Harriet is a widow living in Philadelphia with her basset hound Humphrey. (right there you have me hooked because I have a basset hound too ;)) She is living life her way in the house she owned with her husband. Her son and daughter in law want her to move out to California with them but she doesn't want to. After Harriet falls for the fourth time, she loses a bet with her daughter in law and starts packing up to move. As Harriet is packing up her life's collection of salt and pepper shakers she realizes she has never been anywhere. Oh they took trips to the shore every year but actually going somewhere. She wants to see the country and visit the salt and pepper shaker museum.

So Harriet makes a decision that will change her life forever. She leaves behind the only life she's ever known and her best friend Martha. She starts out in her city and rides public transportation all the way to California. She goes city to city on nothing but buses, trains and public options for her to get there. A few new friends help her out along the way and Harriet discovers herself. Harriet once felt like her life was done with but she quickly discovers that God has bigger plans for her still.

This is truly a joy to read and a very wonderful story that you should give a chance. You can follow Harriet along at her blog as you read the story as well.

Check it out and let me know what you think! I appreciate the opportunity to read this book and share how wonderful it is.
