Grace Bible For Kids: Review and Giveaway!

I was blessed to check out the Grace Bible for Kids 2024 version as a review from Lifeway Christian. The focus of this bible is to help children with Dyslexia and other various challenges reading to be able to have a bible they can easily understand and comprehend. This children's bible was created with a partnership between Holman Bibles and 2K.DENMARK and Cambridge Universities to provide an enhanced reading experience for all reading levels.

Some of the features of this bible include:
  • Large font at 11-point type size - Utilizing proven principles such as space between the letters, words, and paragraphs, this makes it so much easier to understand for many different reading abilities.
  • Ribbon marker to help hold their spot when they are reading
  • Presentation page for writing a special note when gift giving
  • 40 different insert pages with study guides and maps to help connect your kiddos to the scriptures
  • Christian Standard Bible version
  • Inclusive Grace typeface, design and layout
  • Comes in a hardback and a blue leather touch option
  • Summary of each book of the Bible and divisions

One of my favorite things about this bible is the variety of colored overlays they provide to help your children focus on the words as they are reading. These overlays have been studied and proven to help enhance visual processing as you or your children are reading through the word.

Another exciting feature of this bible is the Bible skills and checklist. This starts with very beginning bible skills such as memorizing a passage, learning the different books of the bible, etc. It gets more advanced as your children improve their Bible knowledge. It helps to show them their progress in studying the word as they grow in their relationship with Christ.

To learn more about this bible, check out CSB Grace Bibles!

This would make a great gift idea for the children in your life who you want to help grasp God's word in a way they can understand without feeling the frustration of other bibles. There's also a Grace Bible for Adults as well! Shop for your entire family here!

**Review and Giveaway!** The Life In Christ Bible

I am super excited to share this new bible release and review from Nelson bibles. The Life In Christ Bible tackles something that is so distorted in our society today: Identity.

With so many issues surrounding the identity of who we are in the world, our identity has always been found in Christ. This new Nelson bible helps to show you that exact thing through the pages of God's written word. It's super exciting to dive into this version and see how God has so beautifully written about who we are and our purpose throughout the Bible itself.

The good news is that God has a specific purpose for your life! You're not just floundering around in this world alone and aimless. God has a plan, a purpose, and a design specifically for you. Knowing where to find that can be overwhelming. That's why we have the Word to guide us step-by-step.

This new version of the Bible offers insight into God's design and our identity with powerful helps throughout the entire book. These helps include:

  • Introductions to each book and features of the identity-related themes you'll find
  • 1,000 chain referenced notes
  • 16-identity focused themes that are expanded on with 70 articles throughout
  • Charts
  • Cross-references and translator's notes
  • NKJV comfort print
  • And much more!
I love the identity themed articles you'll find that are connected with guides to tell you where the next one is. For example, I read one in Proverbs discussing a parent's role as their children progress into adulthood. This is the phase we are in right now. It's difficult sometimes knowing what to do and parent's often lose their identity in "mom or dad" and forget who they are. Sometimes we all need a little reminder that we are a child of the King. The article brings encouragement, a scripture focus, and then guides you to other topics in the same theme. These are a great way to do a study on identity for an extended period of time.

Other aspects that The Life In Christ Bible will help you discover include:
  • Why you matter, not because of what you do, but because of you being made in the image of God
  • Learn how the Gospel of Jesus makes us a new creation
  • Discover how learning who God says you are will change the way you act, speak, think, and see the world around you

You can order your copy of The Life In Christ Bible by clicking the link today!

You can also enter a chance to win your own copy below! HarperCollins has so graciously offered for one of my readers to get an opportunity to win this awesome new addition to your Bible collection. Enter below by commenting your favorite scripture that encourages you!

More Than Just The Talk Book Review

Ok, so let's talk about the elephant in the room. You know the one that you hope stays in it's corner and that magically gets through to your kids with osmosis? The elephant that you hope you don't have to talk about anytime soon?

You know the elephant that once your child is born is always hovering nearby waiting for the day when you have to sit down and have "The Talk" about?

Yeah. That one. It seems that it's a subject that is far off then one day your child asks you out of the blue, "What is sex?".

Yeah. You're with me now right?

I have known this was coming since we knew we were pregnant. My husband and I joked about the talk before Boo Bear was even born and we also said "but that's way way off from now".

Enter now. Here we are. No, it's not quite time to have the full blown talk with him but he's about to turn nine. While we do homeschool, he hear's words like sex on television. It's really sad that in commercials and regular old television shows this is a predominant subject. Unless you totally disconnect from the world around you and hide out in a bunker, your child is going to face this probably much earlier than you're ready for them to.

That's where Jonathan McKee's new book, More than Just The Talk, comes in hand. I recently received this as a review from Family Christian Supply and since I had already had the "what is sex" question come up once, I thought this would be an amazing time to read it. Just so happens, it worked out I was chosen to get this for review.

From the beginning of the book I learned a lot about how much our kids are inundated with sex and how it's portrayed to them. The songs they hear, the movies they watch, even a simple search on the Internet can get them way more than they bargained for. Don't get me wrong. I know it's there but sometimes it sneaks in on you.

Jonathan brings out the truth about kids in your youth group. You may think that they don't hear or see these things but it's happening everywhere. The songs your children are listening to on their iPods or with their friends. Have you stopped and listened to some of those lyrics?

It's pretty scary how easy it is for them to get a mixed bag of information and a skewed portrait of what this amazing gift is. They can see it as a game or as a competition instead of the incredible gift that God gave to a married couple.

I have to say while this was a hard book to read for me because I want my kid to stay innocent and small forever, it was such a tremendous encouragement and help. Jonathan has been working in youth ministry for 20 years and he's offering such great advice on becoming your child's go to person when they have questions.

The book is full of great information and encouragement as you realize you're not alone in this journey with your children. He encourages you to talk about God's plan for sex and to have more than just one talk. He explains how having multiple talks along the way opens up that dialogue and relationship with your children so they can come to you when they have questions. I'd much rather he come to us than hitting Google every time.

He covers all sorts of topics that are pretty touchy but how you can talk to your child about them. He goes over scriptures and assists you in answering those hard ones such as why should I wait, the lure of porn and the voices your children are hearing from every direction on this topic.

I have to say one of my favorite chapters was "Your Son". Here's a shot of one of my favorite things that stood out to me in that chapter. We want to raise our son to be a respectable, hardworking man. One who knows where his help comes from and who to turn to in times of trouble. We want him to make wise decisions and to surround himself with people that can lead him to the right path. This quote stuck out to me... "Boys need to learn that a wise man is a humble man... We need to be careful who we surround ourselves with".

As a parent you may have already had the talk or you may be on the verge of the talk. You may have had questions come up and not sure really how to respond. Jonathan McKee's book is a great tool for your arsenal in helping your children make wise decisions and know who they can talk to. It helps you to realize that you can do this and helps you to understand it doesn't have to be taboo.

I highly recommend checking out this book and his others on helping to get through those tough and difficult conversations. You can also check out his website by clicking here.

I Wish I Were a Shark E-Book Review

If you've been around here any length of time, you may remember our struggles with reading. We would push and tears were shed and then we'd slack off and the cycle started all over again. I'm not sure what switch came on but in the past couple of years, Boo Bear has decided he likes to read.

That is such an amazing accomplishment for him. I'm so proud of him and excited for the worlds that opened up. Honestly, once I stopped pushing what I thought he would like to read and he chose the books, it became much easier.

That's one tip I'll share with you. If you're new to homeschooling or just new to the beginning reader, let them pick what they want to read. I always pushed him towards books that I thought he might like. While he might like them some, he wanted to read more non-fiction than fiction. He's a truth and facts kind of guy.

Once that realization set in for me, the reading time in our homeschool was much easier. He even reads to our Golden.

One thing this kid loves to read about is Sharks. All types of sharks. He's a shark fanatic. So when we got the opportunity to review the E-book I Wish I Were A Shark by Dan Jackson, I jumped at it.

This book is about a little dolphin that wishes it was a shark instead of the dolphin it is. Dan takes you on a journey of what sharks look like and act like and why it would be fun to be one.

Purchase from Amazon (photo credit)
This book was very easy for my kiddo to read as it is on a Early/Beginner reader. That really doesn't matter to him because he loves books about sharks. I also try to let him read a variety of levels as this helps him improve his reading on all levels.

If you're little one loves sharks, then this is a definite must try. It runs for $2.99 on the Kindle edition and you can also purchase a paperback. We reviewed the edition for my Kindle. I love Kindle books because we can always have a stack to read, no matter where we are.

Swing on over and check out this book on Amazon and see what others have to say.

Did you have struggles with your beginning reader? What tips helped you out?

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Christi The Coupon Coach Review

 photo christithecouponcoachlogo_zpsbe2a70cc.png

For this review I received Christi The Coupon Coach's book, Couponing Made Simple. Couponing has changed dramatically from the days of our mother's and grandmothers. Gone are the days of just simply using a coupon on your favorite item. There is a system that you can put into place and help save your family 50% or more on your groceries. How? By putting Christi's approach and tips in place. You can easily save your family money and be saving up for that big purchase, putting it back in savings or getting ready to send your children off to college. Whatever the reason you need to save, Christi can show you how.

You can purchase her paperback book for $18 or you can get a Kindle edition as well.

Christi's book is called Couponing Made Simple. It is just that. She teaches you the methods to put in place to help save your family money and eat well. We have all seen the crazy show, Extreme Couponing. While it can be fun to watch, it's not realistic. Most of us don't live in the areas that triple and double coupons. If you pay close attention, they will also tell you they don't do this often and it's their biggest trip. Christi's approach is for REAL life and REAL people. These are realistic savings you see in your book. One of her success stories shows a 92% savings! Wow! I am striving for that savings for my family.

This book is a great beginners guide to couponing. It takes you step by step on how to get started, what you need, how to organize your coupons and so much more. Christi will walk with you on each step of the system and help you set up a system that works for you. Not all coupon systems are a one size fits all. What works for one person doesn't work for another when it comes to organizing your coupons. Christi gives you several ideas for organizing your coupons in a way that makes it easy to find.

She also takes the time to go through the steps of what you need to do to be successful couponing. You will learn how to match sales and coupons together to get the most out of your shopping trip. It's confession time. I used to be a couponer. Like a die-hard couponer with a binder and everything. But just like many others, I got overwhelmed and bogged down in trying to do it all. That is where Christi comes in. She gives you simple to follow steps and procedures to help you coupon successfully without getting overwhelmed and stopping.

Here are a few things you will find in her book:

- Coupon terminology - what do all those abbreviations mean?
- Organization ideas - how do I keep all these coupons in an orderly fashion?
- Success stories - see how she makes it work and what successes others have had in couponing
- Tips and Tools - make your trip more efficient with these tips and tools
- Ethics - some people are cut throat couponers. Learn the ethics of couponing

If you are interested in getting into this huge coupon opportunity where you could save your family 80% off your groceries and other items, this is a great place to start! Christi's book is easy to understand, read and know how to go about your first coupon trip. Get excited as you read her tips and tricks of the trade and see your first successful coupon trip.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is wanting to learn the ins and outs of REAL coupon possibilities. I have put her methods into play myself and am already seeing the savings!

The Power Of The Prophetic Blessing Review

I was blessed to receive a free copy of John Hagee's book The Power of the Prophetic Blessing in exchange for my review. I have been working on reading this book and honestly haven't gotten to far into it.
I have watched him on tv for many years both as a child and sporadically as an adult. I do enjoy listening to him on tv and do agree with some of the things said.

For me, the book is going slowly but,for me, most do when it is not a fictional tale. I have enjoyed what I have read so far. I do find one reoccurring theme in both my reading and those who have read the book. The power of life and death are in the tongue. You can speak positivist and blessings into your life and others or you can speak negative and discord into others. While I am carefully reading this book to determine more of what John Hagee has to say, I do find this has been true throughout my life and others.
When you speak negatively you will start to feel negative and things you do will start to reflect it. No one wants to be around a "negative Nelly". When you speak life and positive things into your day, your day goes much better.

This book would make for a great study and debate within a bible study group I think this would also be great for a personal study and inflection for you to dive into.

If you get a chance to pick it up then by all means grab it. I have loved other things he has written and I'm sure I'll enjoy this as I finish it.

Book Review: Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus

**I received the book Harriet Beamer takes the bus free to do a review. All opinions are mine**

I love reading. I love blogging and thankfully the two typically go hand in hand. I especially get excited when I get to read a book that is coming out and share my thoughts on it.

The book I got to read this time is called Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus by Joyce Magnin. It is published by Zondervan. Joyce has written five novels and this is my first of hers to read. I'm hooked ;)

The story line follows Harriet Beamer and her family. Harriet is a widow living in Philadelphia with her basset hound Humphrey. (right there you have me hooked because I have a basset hound too ;)) She is living life her way in the house she owned with her husband. Her son and daughter in law want her to move out to California with them but she doesn't want to. After Harriet falls for the fourth time, she loses a bet with her daughter in law and starts packing up to move. As Harriet is packing up her life's collection of salt and pepper shakers she realizes she has never been anywhere. Oh they took trips to the shore every year but actually going somewhere. She wants to see the country and visit the salt and pepper shaker museum.

So Harriet makes a decision that will change her life forever. She leaves behind the only life she's ever known and her best friend Martha. She starts out in her city and rides public transportation all the way to California. She goes city to city on nothing but buses, trains and public options for her to get there. A few new friends help her out along the way and Harriet discovers herself. Harriet once felt like her life was done with but she quickly discovers that God has bigger plans for her still.

This is truly a joy to read and a very wonderful story that you should give a chance. You can follow Harriet along at her blog as you read the story as well.

Check it out and let me know what you think! I appreciate the opportunity to read this book and share how wonderful it is.

Book Review: Eyes of Justice

** I received this book free from BookSneeze for my review of the product. All opinions are mine. **

I had never heard of the Triple Threat Justice books by Lis Wiehl and April Henry until I received the book Eyes for Justice for review. I have to say... I want to go back and read the rest of these books by this wonderful author.

I was sucked in immediately to this book. Do you ever have those books that by the first few pages you know it's not going to be your favorite or you are not going to be able to put it down? That was this one! From the first few pages in I knew I would love this book no matter how it ended.

The Triple Threat consists of Cassidy, Allison and Nicole. All three friends in adult life because their jobs intertwined. One is a prosecutor, one a reporter and one an FBI agent. These women face unbelievable tragedies and trials as they are after a killer who is targeting them. Follow these women who face the ups and downs while learning about themselves and their relationship with God.

This book takes you on a whirlwind journey through the loss of friends, family and finding hope in a dark world. I absolutely enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good fiction mystery with a spiritual emphasis.

If you are looking for a new read then by all means get your hands on this wonderful book. I am now going to find the other two so I can get the back story before this great book. :) Happy Reading!!
