Homeschool in the Woods: HISTORY Through the Ages Hands-on History Lap-Pak: U.S. Elections Review

Recently we received the chance to check out one more of the awesome Home School in the Woods  units. As it is an election year, I jumped at the chance to check out the HISTORY Through the Ages Hands-On History Lap-Pak: U.S. Elections unit. My son understands we are choosing a new president this year, but this was an opportunity to truly get into the nitty-gritty of what is about to happen.
U.S. Elections History Lap-Pak Review
Home School in the Woods provides a variety of lapbook studies to make learning fun and exciting. These are great hands-on history projects so that you can work with your child and learn through a variety of methods. They believe that history should not be a drudgery or boring, ever! These lapbook units make it easy to get excited about learning through the Civil War, Ancient Egypt, and of course, the U. S. Elections!
What we received:
We received the digital download pack of the U.S. Elections lapbook. This includes a variety of items to print off and work with including PDF's, text to read or MP3's to listen to, activities to work on and so much more. You can purchase either the digital download like we got or the actual CD to print everything off.

The study itself is set up to be done in a lapbook, however, we prefer using a binder method for ours. You can do either way that works well for you. We like to print off the text and activities, put them in a binder on cardstock and keep it together that way. This study is geared towards grades 3rd-8th. There are 21 different lapbook activities to work on throughout the course. You can work on the program in a couple different ways. They provide a small booklet of the reading material you can print out, or you can print it on full page text.  I'll show you the two variations in a moment.

If you choose the lapbook setup, yours might look similar to this:

Ours looks like this as we are using a binder method:

Either way you choose to work on it is fine. It is a curriculum that can be tweaked to fit your needs. The audio files work well for us so that Boo Bear can read along or work on the activities as the information is read. Sometimes I would read it aloud or he would do some reading. Others we listened to the MP3 files. It is easy to work with in all aspects!

Each of the 21 activities in the unit focus on different aspects of the election process, branches of government and the campaign. Each of the activities include step-by-step instructions on how to put them together and how you can install them in your lapbook.

How we used it:
For us, we worked on the study about three times a week. We would do the readings or listen to the audio as Boo Bear worked on the activity. After he had colored, or written his answers we would place it in our binder. The activities are usually answering questions about the reading or coloring and cutting out information that reiterates what we just went over.

What we think:
We honestly have loved Home School in the Woods since we got the first opportunity to check them out a few years ago. This one is no different. It is very informative and easy to understand. It starts by going over a variety of governments including a monarchy, king and anarchy.

These hands-on lap books make learning United States history fun and exciting. It keeps your children engaged and interested in learning what you're talking about. If you have a child who learns better through hands on activities, this is a great asset for your homeschool history program.

We highly recommend these programs for exciting ways of making history interesting and memorable. Whether you choose the traditional lap-book method or a binder method, they work great!
